From Moonshot thinking to Moonshot doing

The world is a floating sphere in the middle of a huge amount of asteroids, stars and planets. In a space that we do not even know if it has an end. In that sphere we travel 7.9 billion people. Most of us don't even think about everything that surrounds us. But from time to time it's good to take a break. Take a breath and look up.

This is a nice way of expressing Moonshot Thinking, thinking big.

At TheCUBE we really like Moonshot Thinking. Facing challenges, a priori, unattainable, with radical solutions through disruptive technologies. We have been researching the "Economy of Space" for some time now. Those of you who live in an apartment in the center of a big city have surely thought that, of course, economizing space is important. In this case we are talking about another space. Space with a capital letter. The one they travel through in the Star Wars movies. To which Elon Musk launches a car from time to time, if that's not Moonshot Thinking...

When you get right down to it, reality is a lot closer to fiction than we imagine. First of all...

Where are we at?

The space industry is already using emerging technologies such as 5G, advanced satellite systems or 3D printing. Many services such as weather forecasting, GPS or long-range communications systems already rely heavily on space infrastructures.

The new SpaceTech trends go far beyond all that. We have been hearing about space travel, colonizing Mars, democratizing the Moon... And believe it or not, these futuristic phrases may be closer than we think.

Technology trends such as nanosatellites, intelligent propulsion, space robotics, space traffic management, or space mining are gaining ground in the emerging industry. Along with increased private investment, emerging companies are developing technologies that can cross borders. Frontiers that a few years ago seemed impossible to reach. The financial consulting firm "Morgan Stanley", estimates that the global space industry could generate revenues of more than one trillion dollars in 2040, compared to the current $350 billion.

Specifically, today I wanted to talk to you about 3 startups that must have used the Moonshot Thinking methodology to the letter. Some of them have gone from Moonshot Thinking to Moonshot doing, as they already have their own prototypes:

TCT Aerospace

Is a Scottish startup. They want to revolutionize the field of telecommunications. They develop quantum communication technology. This solution uses the principles of quantum entanglement to offer instantaneous and unbreakable point-to-point communication. It requires no radio towers, relay stations, satellites, fiber or optical cabling. It would allow instant communication over infinite distances, such as from Earth to Mars, or from the Sun to Saturn, with unlimited data transfer capacity.

Helios

Is an Israeli startup. They are well aware that you can't live up there without oxygen. So they are developing technologies to extract oxygen and metals from the soil of Mars and the Moon. With this they want to provide breathable air, fuel and construction materials for all upcoming space missions.

E - Orbit

Is a project of the Indian company Entropy. They propose to radically change the energy supply of the earth. Their idea is based on the "Space Based Solar Power" concept. It consists of collecting solar energy in space by means of a large satellite and transmitting it to Earth wirelessly using radio waves (microwaves) or light waves (lasers).

With all the space technology in full swing, I can't help but wonder where we are going to get to in a few years.

Will it be possible to visit the moon in an accessible way?

Will we have a colony living on Mars?

Will we have a colony living on Mars? Will we be able to contact them by video call, or will we have to watch out for jet lag?
